Salinas Shooting: Lockdown, 18-Year-Old Student Died; Police Search for Suspects

Salinas, CA — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Friday evening near Camarillo Court in Salinas, leaving an 18-year-old male fatally injured and prompting a temporary lockdown at a nearby school.

Shooting Reported Near Residential Area

Salinas police officers and emergency medical personnel were dispatched after receiving reports of a gunshot victim shortly after the incident unfolded. Upon arrival, officers located the victim and began securing the area while medics provided emergency treatment.

The victim was pronounced dead.  He was identified as a student of a nearby school.

Suspect Vehicle Seen Fleeing

Witnesses reported seeing a black Dodge vehicle with significant rear-end damage fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting. Officers are working to confirm the vehicle’s involvement and are actively searching for the car and its occupants.

Multiple Individuals Seen Running From Scene

According to police, several individuals were seen running from the area, including one male reportedly carrying a handgun who fled before officers arrived. With the scene initially unsecured, officers had to clear nearby streets and surrounding areas to ensure public safety.

Investigators are now canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing residents, and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.

Nearby School Placed on Lockdown

At the time of the incident, Alisal High School was hosting a basketball tournament, bringing additional students, athletes, and spectators to the campus. As a precaution, the school implemented a campus lockdown until officers confirmed there was no active threat to those on school grounds.

Parents were notified, and the lockdown was lifted after police secured the area.

Investigation Ongoing

No arrests have been made as of Friday night, and the investigation remains active. Police are urging anyone with information—including sightings of the black Dodge or individuals running from the area—to contact the Salinas Police Department.
