Ionia Community Mourns Educator and School Leader Jason Eric Little
Ionia, MI — The Ionia community is grieving the loss of Jason Eric Little, a respected educator, administrator, mentor, and community leader, who passed away on December 3, 2025. He was 36.
Little, who served as both a Social Studies and History Teacher with Ionia Public Schools and the Principal at Douglas R. Welch High School, was widely admired for his dedication to at-risk students and his unwavering belief in their potential. His death has been confirmed by the family as a tragic suicide, leaving the community he served for more than a decade heartbroken.
A Life Devoted to Education and Students
Born on February 25, 1989, in Lansing, Michigan, to Rick and Christina Little, Jason grew up with a deep love of learning and a passion for helping others. After graduating high school, he attended Central Michigan University, where he studied education and history. During his time at CMU, he joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon, forging lifelong friendships and meeting the love of his life, Ashley (Reisbig) Little.
For over 12 years, Jason shaped classrooms and futures throughout the Ionia Public Schools district. As a teacher, he brought history to life with compassion and enthusiasm. As principal of Douglas R. Welch High School, he provided full instruction in core social studies and history courses while working closely with students and families. Colleagues often described him as a champion for young people who needed support the most.
“Jason believed every student was capable of greatness,” one coworker shared. “He gave them hope, structure, and someone who truly listened.”
Leadership Beyond the Classroom
In addition to his work in education, Jason was involved in the broader Ionia community. He was active with the Ionia Affiliated Athletic Boosters (IAAB), where he had served for six years—including most of that time as president. He supported local athletics with the same dedication he brought to his school leadership.
Outside of his career, Jason enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, football, and spending time with family and close friends. His sense of humor, kindness, and joy were constants in the lives of those who knew him.
A Family Man Remembered With Love
Jason leaves behind his wife, Ashley Little, and their two children, Amelia and Isaac, whom he adored. He is also survived by his mother, Christina (Clark) Little, parents-in-law Edward and Adeline Reisbig, his sisters Jessica (Chad) Garner and Jennifer (Thomas) Wohlscheid, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Eric Little.
He is also remembered by his lifelong friend Dom Oviedo, and many cousins, uncles, aunts, fraternity brothers, educators, and former students whose lives he touched.
